Tony Aidoo’s allegation is false – Agyepong

THE Government has described as false, an allegation made by Dr Tony Aidoo, Head of Research Department of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on GTV programme Kwaku One-on-One, on which he accused the NPP government of misapplying state funds in the name of the Presidency.

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Deputy Government spokesman, Mr Kwabena Agyapong.

The statement explained that, a total of ?40,781,87,00 was used to convert the bushy area around the president’s residence into a car park, provide additional security lights as well as the construction of observation post for security personnel to facilitate surveillance around the residence.

The statement said, these works were undertaken by prestige department of the PWD at the cost of ?40,781,87,00.

It also said that the renovation was done to provide the necessary security for the President in view of the fact that, his official residence at the Osu castle was not ready for him to move in.

“Therefore the allegations that ?1.5 billion was spent to renovate the private residence of the President is manifestly false and must be dismissed with the contempt it deserves”.

The statement added ” whilst we uphold the liberal values of free expression in the media, it is our view that those who choose to make such unguarded and unsubstantiated allegations display disrespect and disdain to our institutions and do not deserve the spotlight, they get through the use of your media”.
