Tony Aidoo justifies GH¢6,200 acquisition of state vehicle

Head of Policy Evaluation and Oversight Unit at the Presidency Tony Aidoo has justified his acquisition of a Ford Expedition vehicle in 2011.

An NPP group, The People Must Know, has accused Dr Aidoo of abuse of office and corruption in the purchase of the vehicle which has a market value of 60,000 Ghana cedis at a paltry sum of 6,200 Ghana cedis.

Mr. Awuku said “it is clear that the action of Dr. Tony Aidoo constitutes thievery of the highest order and must therefore be reprimanded. Unfortunately, we cannot vouch for the integrity of the very person who ought to reprimand Dr. Tony Aidoo and his likes.”

But Dr. Aidoo speaking to XYZ News in an interview said he went through due process in acquiring the auctioned vehicle.

According to Dr. Aidoo, the vehicle was in a very a bad state when he purchased it.

“I bought the vehicle when I saw an advert in the Ghanaian Times to be precise that the vehicle was up for auction so I got in touch with the auctioneer.

“This particular car didn’t have a functional gear box, air-condition unit and it body had deteriorated and needed attention. Evaluation was done by the State transport; I applied for transfer of ownership and the vehicle was transferred into my name”.
