Tolon District completes street naming exercise

The Tolon District Assembly in the Northern Region has successfully completed its street naming exercise while the property and house numbering continues.

Mr Seidu Abukari, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tolon, who conducted the media on an inspection tour, on Wednesday, expressed worry about the haphazard property development in the area, which he said, was delaying the completion of the property and house numbering exercise.

Mr Abukari said people in the area participated in the exercise, which resulted in the assembly devoting some 12 streets to illustrious sons of the district, whose contributions propelled the development of the area.

He mentioned the streets as, Palace Street, Yepelgu Road, Dimabi Road, Assembly Street, Byom Palace Street and Naa Damba Street.

The rest are, Mogzhegu Road, Kukuonayili Road, Fehini Street, J. S Kaleem Street, Quarters Street and Sabegu Road.

He said the exercises, however, would continue, explaining that, the District Assembly would not hesitate to name more roads and streets as and when new areas got developed.

“While others have finished building, another person is excavating to build, which makes the property numbering a continuous exercise and we would not relent in our efforts in numbering new property as and when they spring up,” he explained.

He said the assembly had put in place a permanent secretariat equipped with computers, printer, a motorbike, photocopier, and a scanner for the purposes of the street naming and property addressing exercise.

He expressed the hope that revenue mobilization would become easier and the use of trees and street sellers as points for directions would be a thing of the past.
