Togolese opposition parties call on Kufuor

Accra, July 27, GNA – A three-man delegation of three opposition parties in Togo on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

The delegation led by Professor Leopold Messan Gnininvi, General Secretary of the Democratic Convention of African People (CDPA), was in Accra to express their appreciation to the Ghana government for its role in solving the crisis in Togo.

Professor Gnininvi said: “We are here to thank you and the government for the role you played to solve the crisis in Togo at the summits in Abuja and Accra.”

President Kufuor said Ghana was grateful to the delegation for the gesture adding: “Our countries are really two sister nations. What affects Togo affects Ghana, we should therefore, be concerned about issues affecting Togo.”

“What we did is for the general peace and stability in Togo and the West Africa sub-region. We welcome your appreciation for the little we did to help bring peace to Togo”, he added.

Other members of the delegation who held closed door meeting with President Kufuor were, Professor Aime Tchaboure Gogne, leader of the Alliance for Democrats for Integral Development and Dr Jean Hunkali, a leading member of the Union of Social Democrats of Togo.
