Drama unfolded here when Togolese Gendarmes on two Ghanaian vehicle loaders based in Kumasi found themselves in a Togolese security dragnet in Lomé when their devilish plans to sell one of their brothers for a handsome amount of 20 millions CFA francs, about 400 million Cedis was aborted by vigilant police.
The plans were aborted when vigilant police swooped on the confidence tricksters to rescue their victim just as he was about to be handed over to a prospective buyer.
Togolese Security Forces acting upon a tip-off grabbled two Kumasi cargo loaders, Kwame Sarpong alias Kodjo 28, and Joefried Arkhurst 26, who had succeeded to lure their victim, 27-year-old Jacob Bonnah, a Kumasi driver to Lomé on the pretext of helping him to acquire a vehicle from the Lomé Free Port.
According to the Togo Judicial Police, unsuspecting Bonnah followed the two treacherous Lucifer brothers to Lomé on the eve of the New Year with the dream of being the proud owner of a brand new vehicle. But his wildest dreams turned into a nightmare when he unknowingly became the object of negotiations between his two Ghanaians brothers, and a prominent Alhaji in Lomé.
But just as his prize money was going to be paid by the Alhaji vigilant Togolese Security Forces made their timely swoop to put an end to the diabolical and criminal transaction, which the Togolese Police described as “a sophisticated form of pr.ofessional human trafficking”.
The culprits have since been handed over the Ghanaians Section of Interpol for prosecution in Ghana. Togolese Police Officer Ernest Konka appealed for external vigilance by the populations of Ghana and Togo so that “we can uncover such callous and heartless acts of man’s inhumanity to man”.
