Tema, Oct.17, GNA – The Management of Tema Lube Oil Company Limited (TOCL) on Wednesday resourced the Tema Library Board with modern assorted books, equipment and various items worth 250 million cedis to enhance reading among the youth and as part of its social responsibility.
The other items included computers and accessories, sets of furniture, plastic chairs, ceiling fans, photocopier and accessories, water dispenser and floor carpet. It also refurbished the Library. Mr Richard Adu-Poku, Board Member of TOCL who made the presentation, said the company mindful of the importance of education was committed to the development and preservation of quality and motivated human resource of the nation.
He said the presentation was to inspire the culture of reading among the populace especially the youth and recalled that in the spirit of patriotism, the company established 13 years ago had presented medical equipment worth 750 million cedis to the Tema General Hospital. The Board Member said the company would provide the library with issues of the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times for a year starting from November.
Mr David Annang, Tema Municipal Chief Executive, regretted that reading among the youth had declined and most of them prefer to watch films and indulge in other negative vices that had led to the poor usage of grammar in schools.
He therefore, advised the youth to join educational societies and participate in programmes that promote learning in order to articulate their views properly and appealed to parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards cultivate the habit of learning. Mr Adjei Appenten, Greater Accra Regional Librarian of the Ghana Library Board expressed appreciation to the Company and appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate their example to stock other libraries.
He commended the Tema Municipal Assembly for the location of the library, surrounded by office the West African Examination Council, a Senior Secondary School and a children’s playground.
