Tobinco denies dismissing 600 workers

Local Pharmaceutical Company, Tobinco has indicated that it has not laid off 600 of its staff.

News rife, Wednesday, indicated that the company had laid off 600 workers because they have become redundant after some of their drugs were declared fake by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

But speaking in an interview on ‘Kokrokoo’ Thursday morning, Isaac Obed Brown, Financial Controller of Tobinco rectified that the workers have been asked to ‘go home for a few days’ and not sacked permanently.

According to him, because some of the products have been taken off the market, the distribution force has been reduced and so some of the workers have little or no work to do.

“We have not terminated their appointment, we’ve only asked them to go home for a few days and when the issues have been settled, we will recall them,” he noted.
