TMA to recapture its image as a model Assembly

Tema, Sept. 24, GNA – The Tema Municipal Chief Executive, Mr David Quaye Annang has announced that the Assembly is putting in place mechanisms to enable it recapture its image, as a model Assembly in the country.

This, he said, requires new approaches to the execution of its statutory functions.

“This desire will be achieved primarily by placing ourselves in such a way that we can maintain a high standard of discipline within the various organs that assist in the maintenance and enforcement of the bye-laws of the Assembly,” he added.

The DCE was delivery a speech at the passing-out ceremony of 41 City Guards of the Assembly, after four weeks training in police duties, court proceedings and the Assembly’s byelaws.

He warned them against extorting monies from offenders and said those, who would be caught in such act would be severely dealt with according to the tenets of the disciplinary code of the Assembly. He advised the City Guards to let the knowledge and skills they have acquired reflect in the discharge of their duties to the public and reminded them to let integrity and discipline be their watchwords. Mr Annang however, urged the head of the guards to collaborate effectively with the legal unit and the environmental health department of the Assembly to help enforce its environmental laws.

He also suggested the setting up of an environmental court to prosecute individuals and institutions, who pollute the environment in the municipality.
