TMA inaugurates three zonal councils

Tema, July 21, GNA — The Tema Municipal Assembly on Friday inaugurated three of its six zonal councils, nine months after the district level elections in September last year.

Inaugurating the Ashaiman, Kpeshie and the Kpeshie Gonno councils, Tema Municipal Chief Executive, Mr David Quaye Annang, said the delay in the inauguration was due to some administrative problems and said the other three would be inaugurated in a month’s time. Mr Annang urged the councillors to help develop strategies that would bring improvement in revenue collection. He said even though the Zonal Councils were constitutionally mandated to help mobilize revenue and retain 50 percent of it, the activities of past sub-municipal structures had not been encouraging to enable TMA surrender additional revenue items to them. Mr Annang said they must bear in mind that they were not competing with the municipal assembly.

Mr Peter Obeng Koranteng of the Kpeshie Gonno Zonal Council assured the TMA on behalf of his colleagues their preparedness to support all the activities of the assembly especially revenue mobilization. 21 July 07
