TMA gives Haulage drivers two week ultimatum

Tema, Jan. 16, GNA- The Tema Municipal Assembly has given Haulage drivers in the Municipality a two week ultimatum to stop parking along the harbour roads and patronize the parking lot provided by a Private Company.

Failure to abide by this order would attract a penalty of 550,000 cedis fine on the spot when the vehicle is clamped or 1.2 million cedis when towed to the office.

At a meeting with the drivers on Saturday, the Co-ordinating Director of the Assembly, Mr Kwaku Akpotosu expressed concern about the way some of the driver park along the main harbour road which he said causes nuisance to vehicular traffic.

He entreated them to make use of the parking lot provided by Port Handling Company, which has now reduced its fee from 24,000 cedis per day to 15,000 cedis.

The Manager of the Company, Mr Yidana Elijah assured the drivers of a 24 hour security and enough parking spaces, which were the concerns of the drivers at the meeting.
