Timber merchant in court for fraud

Bibiani (WR), Oct. 5, GNA – A magistrate’s court at Bibiani has granted Asare Bediako, a 39 year-old timber merchant, a GH=A25,000 (50 million cedis) bail for defrauding a fellow timber dealer. Bediako, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, will re-appear on October 16.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Philip Ahuma Ocansey told the court presided over by Mr Dickson Daketsey that the complainant was also a timber merchant residing at Kwadaso in Kumasi.

ASP Ocansey said the accused approached the complainant and told him that he had a timber concession at Sefwi Boadi near Sefwi Juaboso. The prosecutor said the accused collected 30 million cedis from the complainant under the pretext of supplying him with timber logs. He said after collecting the money, the accused failed to honour his promise and all efforts to retrieve the money proved futile. A report was made to the police and the accused was arrested and after investigations, he was charged with the offence, the prosecution added. 05 Oct. 07
