Tikobo chief, community angry over shoddy road work

The chief and people of Tikobo Number Two have expressed displeasure over shoddy work done by a contractor who worked on a road project in the area.

A four-kilometer road linking the town and Ohia Ma Adwen, a cocoa growing area, was awarded by COCOBOD for spot-improvement to SAMES Company Limited.

Mr. Stephen Ackah Wangalah, a cocoa farmer of the town, said this at Tikobo Number Two at a public hearing on Draft Jomoro District Medium-Term Development Plan (DMTDP)

The programme was organized by Jomoro District Assembly for Area Council members and stake holders in the area.

It aimed at finalizing Community Needs Assessment programme organized in June in the district before approval by the District Assembly.

Mr. Wangalah said the contractor left site about three months ago leaving three culverts not constructed and without gravelling the road.

He said where the contractor was supposed to construct double culverts he did only one, leaving the area flooded whenever it rained.

Mr. Wangalah said opinion leaders in the community protested to the contractor over his shoddy work but to no avail.

He expressed worry about supervision of government projects which eventually pushed huge sums of money down the drain and appealed to the government to return the contractor to site.
