Tigo supports breast cancer awareness programme

Tigo Ghana has joined the national campaign against the spread of breast cancer, which affects thousands of women locally and millions globally.

The telecoms company is a major sponsor of the annual breast cancer awareness creation march dubbed “Walk for Cure”.

The company said it is motivated by the devastating effect of the condition on women and its telling effect on productivity in general, and is contributing GH¢20,000 as a major sponsor of this year’s march.

The event, which is under the auspices of Breast Care International Ghana and Peace and Love Hospitals, is scheduled for the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani, on Saturday.

It is expected to draw a record crowd of over 30,000 participants including civil society and religious groups, schools and market women.

President of Breast Care International and CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, commended Tigo and encouraged more corporate and institutional support towards awareness creation, insisting that early detection of the condition could save several lives that otherwise perish needlessly.

“We are so financially constrained in this campaign, but I am of the conviction that with the necessary financial push, we can make a difference,” she observed.

Officials said the Tigo sponsorship will undoubtedly push up the awareness creation campaign and they challenged other well-resourced and endowed institutions to support Breast Care in its efforts stem the ravaging effects of the disease on women.
