Security presence has been significantly increased at the Manhyia Palace as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, prepares to conclude his mediation between the two factions involved in the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
More than 100 officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have been stationed at the palace, where a long-awaited decision on the dispute is expected soon.
The Asantehene was first tasked by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to help resolve the tensions in Bawku. President John Dramani Mahama later renewed and broadened this mandate, underscoring the urgency of finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to meet with both factions, the Mamprusis and the Kusasis, in what is believed to be his final effort to calm tensions and restore stability to the area, once known for its vibrant trade.
It is still uncertain whether the Asantehene will personally deliver the final decision or if the announcement will come from the Presidency.
Palace officials have remained silent on how the outcome will be communicated, heightening anticipation across the country.
