Tidal waves displace hundreds in Volta Region

Tidal waves have destroyed the homes of many residents in Agavedzi and Blekusu in the Ketu South district of the Volta Region.

Hundreds of the affected individuals suffered the unfortunate incident as the waves swept the towns on the night of Saturday, June 10.

The displaced residents said the strong tidal current has been an annual ritual affecting most residents along the coast, but the intensity of the last incident was unexpected as they pleaded for government support.

The Dufia of Agavedzi, Togbui Akponoguia, appealed to government for the construction of sea defence to protect the coast from the ravages of the waves.
