Thugs harassing Tamale Children’s Home

Tamale, Oct. 09, GNA – Ms. Augustina Quainoo, Supervisor of the Nyohini Children’s Home in Tamale on Monday called for assistance to get rid of thugs who have been harassing the authorities and orphans in the Home.

She said thugs and thieves had made several unsuccessful attempts to kidnap some of the inmates from the Home, a situation that had been a source of worry and nightmare to the authorities.

Ms Quainoo expressed the concern when POSTEP-Ghana, a Tamale-based NGO through Tiyumba cluster of schools presented two bags of maize, four cartons of soap, detergents, toiletries and used clothing valued at about three million cedis, to the Home.

POSTEP-Ghana is a Mother Club of Tiyumba cluster of schools and the NGO has been assisting its Child Clubs to embark on charity donation hence the assistance to the Home.

Ms Quainoo said “Wee” smokers have also invaded the premises of the orphanage and were engaged in other nefarious activities and called for assistance to build a fence wall to protect lives and property and ensure a proper upbringing of the children.

She also appealed to NGOs and other benevolent individuals to help the school get means of transport and funds to settle medical bills of the Home to improve the lives of inmates.

She said there were 21 inmates at the Home and that thieves had always been stealing their belongings, including their school uniforms and stressed the importance of the fence wall. Ms. Margaret Wetia, a teacher of the Tiyumba Cluster of schools, who made the presentation on behalf of the school and POSTEP-Ghana expressed the school’s determination to help improve the lives of the less privileged children.

She said children from Tiyumba would always mobilise and contribute to help other orphanages to improve their lives and to integrate into the society.
