Three Volta Regional Executives of NDC Resign

Ho, Jan.5, GNA – Three Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region have resigned from the Party after “sober reflection” over events during the National Delegates Congress of the Party at Koforidua.

They are Mr Michael Gamor, Regional Organizer, Manfred Nuku-Dei, Deputy Regional Secretary and Mr Wisdom Defeamekpor, First Deputy Regional Youth Organizer.

In their joint letter of resignation to the Volta Regional Chairman of the Party and copied to the media, the three said the Party since the 2002 Legon Congress seemed to have thrived on “intimidation and harassment” of perceived enemies of preferred candidates.

That, according to them had undermined the esprit de corps of the party, culminating in its defeat during the 2004 polls.

“Unfortunately, our defeat was rather blamed on one particular person as though that person had all the antidote to election victory,” the letter indicated.

The letter said at the recent National Congress in Koforidua to elect national officers, “the same crude method which was employed at the Legon Congress was replicated,” giving people described as “some thugs” a field’s day to intimidate and harass “innocent accredited delegates.”

“Some thugs who were not even observers, had access to delegate tags, which gave them the entry visa to sneak into the congress hall to execute their agenda to the disadvantage of innocent accredited delegates.”

Rather than being condemned, there was silence “because the architects were pleased with what could be described as “mission accomplished.”

“We feel too bad to remain under this form of disguised ‘stratocrazy’ since our philosophy is that the party believes in the equality and egalitarian treatment of all persons as social democrats,” the letter concluded.
