Three traders fined for selling on pavement

Accra, May 10, GNA – A District Magistrate’s Court in Accra, on Friday imposed a fine of GH¢360.00 each on three traders for selling on the pavements in Central Accra. Miss Catherine Oforiwah, Mr Kwadjo Mireku and Mr Kwabena Ofori, who would go to jail for six months in default, pleaded guilty.

Miss Linda Kumbonu of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Public Health Unit told the court presided over by Mr Baba Ali that the accused sold goods on the pavements at Railways and Okaishie areas in Accra.

She said that on May 6 and May 7, this year, as part of the decongestion exercise in the metropolis, AMA taskforce arrested the accused for displaying goods on the pavements thereby obstructing the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Miss Kumbonu told the court that AMA had warned traders in the metropolis to desist from such practices to no avail.
