Three to contest Atiwa primary on NDC ticket

Koforidua, Sept. 22, GNA – Three people have filed their nominations to contest the parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atiwa Constituency of the Eastern Region.

They are Mr Emmanuel Atta Twum, the District Chief Executive for Atiwa, Mr Foster Asante, a clearing agent at Tema and Mr Samuel Nana Agyepong, a teacher.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview Mr John Amponsah Kyei, the constituency chairman, confirmed that the three were the only people who filed to contest and that all of them were true party members and are qualified to contest.

He appealed to supporters of the aspirants not to engage in any unnecessary confrontation that could bring tension in the party.

Mr Kyei said the NDC was established on the principles of probity and accountability and therefore all aspirants should be guided by that principle.

He said the most important thing was unity between now and the time of the primary and support for whoever would emerge winner in order to wrest the seat from the NPP for the first time since 1996.
