Three suspected robbers remanded

Three suspected armed robbers have been remanded into custody by a Takoradi Circuit Court for allegedly robbing passengers along Tarkwa/Takoradi Highway.

They are Jerry Ahiabu, Kelvin Ahiabu and Michael Ahiabu, who were identified by the victims of the robbery during an identification parade mounted by the Sekondi police.

The Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.

She said on November 6, 2013, at about 1830 hours, the police were undertaking a snap check at Apimenin along Takoradi-Tarkwa main road.

She said the police intercepted an unregistered Toyota Corolla being driven by Kelvin Ahiabu and when the vehicle was searched, one locally manufactured pistol, 22 live ammunition and 12 cartridges were found on them.

ASP Adiku said when the police interrogated them; they could not give any reasonable explanations and were subsequently arrested.

She said the suspects were arrested along the stretch where robbery had taken place two days earlier.

She said the police suspected that it was the same robbers who were involved in robbery at the Nsuaem/Agona-Nkwanta stretch.
