Three suspected market arsonists identified

Three persons who were arrested by the security agency for allegedly setting fire on various markets have been identified as natives of Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The three are currently in police custody at the Greater Accra Regional CID Headquarters.

Deputy Information Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed on Thursday announced that some people have been arrested following the preliminary investigations into the fires.

He, however, declined to give further details of the arrests except to say they were made in Accra and Kumasi.

But lawyer for the suspects, Majid Armandi confirmed to Joy News that the suspects hail from Bawku, but are temporary residents in Accra.

He added that they were arrested on Tuesday, but are yet to be charged.

He gave the names as Yacubu Tahiru, Fatau Ibrahim and Mustapha Adamu.

Mr Armandi said he had information about their arrest from their family members on Saturday and managed to speak to them at the CID Headquarters yesterday.

According to him, the investigator handling the case assured him that the suspects would be granted bail today.
