Three suspected armed robbers killed by police

Accra, Nov. 19, GNA – The police on Thursday shot dead three unidentified armed robbers who raided a private home in Sakora, near Aden= ta in Accra. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Paul Ayitey, said his outfit received a distress call between 1330 hours and 1400 hours about the activities of the armed robbers in a house at Sakora. He said when the Madina Police and the Mobile Patrol team went to th= e spot they met the armed robbers firing warning shots indiscriminately in the compound of a private house.

The police asked them to stop firing and surrender but they paid no heed to the command and kept on firing until the police entered the compo= und and there was an exchange of fire between the two sides. The police, who were in their bullet-proof vests, shot dead all thre= e armed robbers.

Chief Superintendent Paul Ayitey showed GNA three locally manufactur= ed pistols, 10 unused cartridges, four spent cartridges, two machetes and a pair of flower sheers that the armed robbers were using. The bodies of the three robbers have been deposited at the Ghana Pol= ice Hospital mortuary as further investigations continue.

Mr Ayitey warned armed robbers within his jurisdiction who come to disturb the peace of the inhabitants that they would not be spared. He appealed to the general public to assist identify the armed robbe= rs and to help the police in their investigations.
