Three soldiers being held for assault

Hohoe, July 6, GNA – Three soldiers from the 66th Artillery Regiment, in Ho, allegedly assaulted Mumuni Sibaya and Seidu Magiru, residents of Hohoe-Zongo, at the weekend. The soldiers have been identified as L/BDR Akosah Sarpong, L/C Joseph Amable and GNR Frank Asukole, who were on special guard duties at the Regional Office of the Bank of Ghana, Hohoe. Mr Wisdom Kudze, Hohoe Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to the GNA, said the suspects were being held to assist in investigations.

Mr Sibaya, who has a swollen forehead, told the Ghana News Agency that GHC2,620, a silver designer chain and a Nokia mobile phone valued at a total of GHC650 could not be traced after the attack. Mr Sibaya said the incident took place, on Saturday, at about 2000 hours, when he was watching television and without provocation was assaulted by the three soldiers. He said his head injury resulted from a hit from the butt of a gun.
