Three shot dead at Akyem-Akooko

Two females and a male have been shot dead while three police officers and six other community members are in critical condition after sustaining injuries from gunshots at Akyem-Akooko, a community in the East Akyem Municipality.

This was as a result of a violent clash on Tuesday afternoon between the community members and one Nana Saaka, a fetish priest in the area and his men, who the community suspected of murdering people for rituals.

The Ghana News Agency gathered that, there had been a gathering of chiefs, queenmothers and the people of Akyem-Akooko on Tuesday morning and Nana Saaka invited on the allegation but he did not show up, which the people interpreted as a snub of the traditional authorities in the community.

Thus, later in the day, the angry community members, draped in red bands and regalia, organized a demonstration to banish the fetish priest out of Akyem-Akooko for disrespecting their traditional rulers.

They also allegedly accused him of killing people for rituals, which according to them, was an abomination in the area leading to the clash resulting in deaths
