Three policemen to face Service inquiry for deserting duty post

Ho, May 1, GNA-Three policemen are to face service inquiry for abandoning duty at Lolito Barrier near Dabala-Junction on April 26, this year.

The three; Chief Inspector Linus Adjei, Detective Lance Corporal Divine Atsu and Escort Lance Corporal Alex Boateng are currently detained at the Volta Regional Police Cells. Mr. David Ampah-Bennin, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) in charge of Volta Region, said this at a Regional Commander’s Parade in Ho on Friday.

He said the unprofessional conduct of the three enabled some armed robbers to take over the barrier, molested some passengers, including three women on whom they inflicted injuries. Mr. Ampah-Bennin said but for the timely arrival of a Police Patrol team, the robbers would have had a field’s day to rob and torture passengers.

He described the situation as unfortunate and reminded personnel that “leaving duty post is felonious and can attract outright dismissal.” Mr. Ampah-Bennin said the Command was not going to allow such unprofessional conducts in the service and urged personnel to eschew laziness and work hard if they want to remain in the Service. “Over 30,000 people are ready to take your positions and join the Service so you must make the place enjoyable for yourself”, he advised. He said the Command also had information that some personnel sleep on duty and said the Command has instituted a weekly parade to keep personnel active, alert and fit.
