Three Policemen indicted for killing two persons

Sunyani, Aug. 26, GNA – The Brong Ahafo Police Command has interdicted three Police personnel for killing two persons at Asuem in the Techiman District.

Sergeant W.O. Bonso of Nkoranza, Corporal A. B. Ayamba of Kintampo and Constable Richard Sugah of Nkoranza, who have been placed in custody, would face a judicial enquiry after investigations. Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Officer (PRO), told newsmen in Sunyani that on August 24 the interdicted Policemen were assigned for general duties at Buoyem, near Techiman, but they entered Asuem Forest, near Buoyem, ostensibly to arrest illegal timber operators.

He said in the process they fired killing one Kwasi Twumasi, 26, and wounded Yaw Amoh, 25 who later died.

Inspector Tawiah said when word about the shooting got to the town the residents organised and attacked the three Policemen in the bush. The mob wounded Sergeant Bonso and seized his AK 47 rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition.

The three Policemen took to their heels and later reported the incident to the Techiman District Police that in turn informed the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command.

The PRO said the Regional Command ordered the arrest of the Police personnel.

Inspector Tawiah said: “The IGP has also stressed that his administration will not condone and connive with any police personnel who will take the law into their own hands to harass or wrongly use arms on an unarmed person.” 26 Aug. 03
