Three persons remanded over fake dollars

Accra, April 20, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday placed three people in Police custody for allegedly possessing a box full of counterfeit U.S. dollars.

The plea of Charles Ndogo, a footballer; Joseph Afful, a driver and Janet Adjetey, a trader, were not taken and they are to reappear on May 4.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Amoako told the Court that last week the Police stationed at the Madina Police Station intercepted an Opel Astra taxicab with the registration number AS 912 X driven by one Patience Atiku with the accused persons on board. DSP Amoako said when the car was searched, a trunk box containing 63 bundles of blank papers cut to the size of 100 US dollars and dressed on both sides with 100 US dollars suspected to be fake were found in the boot of the car.

He said in the same trunk box was found 160 US dollars bearing the same serial numbers which were also suspected to be fake. The accused persons denied ownership of the trunk and its contents with each of them saying it belonged to the others. DSP Amoako said the Police needed time to delve into the matter to unravel the truth.
