Three persons remanded for assaulting soldier

Kumasi, Jan 15, GNA- A District court at Ashanti New town in Kumasi, on Monday remanded three persons, who attempted to snatch a gun from a soldier and in the process assaulted him. They were Awudu Mohammed, 21, Abubakr Sadik, 22, and Iliasu Ibrahim, 24, residing at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, Alaba and Moshie Zongo in Kumasi respectively.

They will re-appear before the Court on 25th January this year. Police Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the Court presided over by Mr. S. K Achina, that on January 9 this year, Sergeant Stephen Owusu, a soldier (complainant) was on duty at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi during the football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Club de Ouagadougou from Burkina Faso. Prosecution said the soldier attempted to stop a post-match violence at one of the stands. Inspector Apenteng said the accused persons and others who managed to run-away, tried to take away the complainants gun and in the process assaulted. He said three policemen went to the rescue of the soldier the accused persons were arrested. 15 Jan 08
