Three persons jailed seven years each for stealing truck

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – A Greater-Accra Regional Tribunal on Wednesday sentenced three persons to seven years’ imprisonment each, for stealing a Hyundai truck valued at 80 million cedis.

The three, Ibrahim Salifu, a driver, Kofi Fofie, a blacksmith, and Kofi Aboagye, unemployed, stole the truck, the property of Mr Emmanuel Osafo, Director of Osasco Enterprise, at Apenkwa, a suburb of Accra on July 30.

The three-member tribunal chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu, convicted the three on their own plea, and sentenced them accordingly. On the day in question, Mr Yaw Nyarko, driver of the vehicle, parked it in front of the company’s office after the day’s work. When Mr Nyarko reported for work the following morning, the vehicle was nowhere to be found, and so he made a report to the Police. On August 1, some young men at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region became suspicious when they spotted the truck parked at a junction. The three took to their heels when they saw the young men but they were arrested and sent to the Police station.

Aboagye was later arrested and Salifu and Fofie identified him as an accomplice.

The convicts admitted the offence in their cautioned statements.
