Three persons arrested with suspected stolen sheep

Gomoa Akrama (C/R), Aug. 17, GNA – The Winneba Police Patrol Team on Wednesday impounded a taxicab, carrying four sheep suspected to be stolen and arrested three persons onboard and impounded the cab. The suspects, whose names are being withheld for security reasons have since been remanded in police custody by a magistrate’s court to re-appear on August 23, this year.

Mr Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that, the patrol team on their normal patrol duties, mounted a snap roadblock near Gomoa Akotsi on Wednesday. According to Mr Gasu, the police saw a vehicle coming from the Winneba end of the road at about 0230 hours but on seeing the police diverted its course to a branch road to Gomoa Akrama. Mr Gasu said the behaviour of the ctaxi created suspicion and this made the police to give it a hot chase and arrested it. When the car was searched, four life sheep were found in the booth. The police commander said the suspects in an answer to a question by the police said they bought the sheep at Assin Fosu market and produce a dubious receipt, purported to have been issued by the Assini Fosu Veterinary Office.

Mr Gasu said the police are investigating why the people diverted their course on seeing the police and also decided to travel on that deep night. 17 Aug. 05
