Three pastors remanded for breaching the peace

Akatsi, Sept 26, GNA – A Magistrate Court at Akatsi on Thursday remanded three pastors and an elder of the Akatsi branch of the Apostolic Church of Ghana for offensive conduct in breach of the peace. They are, G.K Anku, David Agudzemega and Sampson Ocloo, the pastors and Elder Daniel Osiabi.

The pleaded not guilty and would be brought before the Court again on October 3, this year.

Police Inspector Henry Vorsah told the court that five years ago conflict broke out among the members of the Apostolic Church at Akatsi leading to a schism in the church

He said despite the separation both sides maintained the same name. Mr Vorsah said the Akatsi District Assembly, the District Police Command and the Local Council of Churches intervened and established some peace between the two groups.

The prosecutor said a new worship premises was put up by the National Council of the Church for the group to which the accused persons belonged, while the other side maintained the old premises. He said last year the group maintaining the old premises assumed a different name, the Apostolic Vision Church.

Mr Vorsah said on September 18, members of the newly named Apostolic Vision Church arrived at the premises for worship but met the accused persons’ group occupying and worshipping there. He said claiming that since they had changed their name and was no longer Apostolic Church of Ghana they could not hold on to property registered under the Apostolic Church and therefore refused to vacate the premises resulting in a fracas until the police came in.
