Three MPs risk losing their seats after joining NPP

Three Independent Members of Parliament risk losing their seats if Parliament takes them on over their association with the main opposition NPP.

They include Nkawkaw MP Seth Adjei Baah, Bekwai MP Joe Osei Wusu and Bosome Freho MP Edward Nana Yaw Ofori Kuragu.

Parliament’s Order 18 of the standing orders and Article 97 (h) of the 1992 Constitution require that any member of the Chamber who crosses carpet automatically loses his seat.

The three MPs won their seats as independent candidates in 2008 following disagreements in the NPP over their candidature.

They however took part in the party’s residual primaries held at the weekend as part of the NPP’s efforts toward roping in all its disgruntled members to present a solid front for the December polls.

Only Joe Osei Wusu won his primaries.

Shai Osudoku MP David Assumeng raised the issue on the floor of the house on Monday.

David Assumeng however said he will meet with the leadership of the house to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, Parliament has approved a loan of nine million, eight hundred and fifty seven thousand euros for the supply of steel bridges.

It is meant for rural development along selected feeder roads.
