Three mistaken for armed robbers, hospitalized after near lynch at Akropong

Police in Akropong in the eastern region are investigating a potential hate crime in which three farmers were nearly lynched by residents of Kokormu, a village near Akuapem -Mamfe in the eastern region.

The three were beaten to pulp by residents on suspicion they were armed robbers. A gunshot by one of the victims was not enough to scare the residents from carrying out their mission.

Explaining the circumstance that led to the attack, Akropong divisional police commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Kofi Adu said some residents arrested the victims and inflicted machete and club wounds on them after trailing them on a motor bike.

According him police rushed to the scene to save the victims following a distress call.

The victims, according to Mr. Kofi Adu are currently on admission at the Tetteh Quarshie memorial hospital in Akuapem-Mampong receiving treatment.

He advised the public to learn lessons from the the brutal lynching of military captain, Adam Mahama and report crime suspects to the police.
