Three masons appear in court for threatening Queenmother

Three people have appeared before a Takoradi Circuit Court for threatening the life of Nana Mozu III, Queenmother of Apremdo.

The three masons, Stephen Ansah, Samuel Sampeni and Charles Bediako Mensah, were charged with allegedly conspiring to commit crime, causing unlawful damage and threatening the life of Nana Mozu III.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted GH¢10,000 bail with one surety each to re-appear on March 8.

Inspector Seth Ahelegbe said Nana Mozu and the accused persons belonged to the same family and on January 10, Ansah sent an emissary to Nana Mozu to ask her not to develop a stool land behind the Second Battalion Infantry (2BN) as he had seen surveyors working on it.

He said Nana Mozu appealed to Ansah to come for a meeting to settle the issue but he did not arrive till January 14, when she woke up from sleep due to loud gunshots behind her house.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the Queenmother and those around her took cover in the main hall whiles the culprits broke the lourve blades on one of the windows with an object and searched the room with a flash light.

He said Nana Mozu at that moment heard the voice of Ansah outside and saw Sampeni and Mensah standing alongside and tried to contact the Police but the call was not successful.

He said when the culprits left the scene, she reported the incident to the Police and hence their arrest.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the accused persons denied the offences in their caution statements but they were charged after further investigations.
