Three JSS Students before court for assault

Kuntanase, (Ash), April 24, GNA – A magistrate’s court at Kuntanase on Thursday granted a one million-cedi bail each to three students of the Pramso D/A Junior Secondary School (JSS) for assaulting a pregnant woman.

Their plea was not taken and they are to re-appear on April 28. The court, Presided over by Mr Adjei Frimpong said bail was granted the accused persons to enable them to prepare for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

They are Solomon Owusu, 17, Raphael Atta, 17 and Nicholas Atta also 17.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Bossman Thomas Tuffour said the three accused persons were class mates to one Florence Sarpong, daughter of the complainant, madam Catherine Owusu, a bar keeper at Pramso. He said the accused persons proposed love to the complainant’s daughter and kept on harassing her to accept their proposal but she ignored them.

The prosecution said when the complainant also discovered it she warned the three to stay clear of her daughter and this annoyed them. He said angered by the complainant’s action the three planned and attacked and injured her while she was on her way home. She sustained injuries affecting her three months old pregnancy.

The Prosecutor said the complainant was rescued by some good Samaritans and rushed to the Pramso Hospital where she was admitted for a few days, treated and discharged.

Thereafter a report was made to the police who arrested and charged the three accused persons with the offence.
