Three jailed for robbing an EU Official.

Kuntenase (Ash), Feb 21, GNA – Two foreigners and a Ghanaian accomplice who robbed an European Union(EU) official of cash have been sentenced to six years imprisonment each by the Magistrate court at Kuntenase.

David Baaki, a Nigerian, James Simon from Liberia and Musah Banda, a Ghanaian were said to have stolen 23 million cedis, 323 dollars and 2,375 pounds sterling in addition to a driving license, camera and other vital documents belonging to Mr. Travella Maurizio, an Italian in his hotel room in Kumasi, whiles he was out having dinner at the hostel’s restaurant.

Police Chief Inspector Edward Osei told the court that Mr. Maurizio, who is in charge of EU projects in the northern sector, was on his way to Accra from Tamale, made a stopover in Kumasi and lodged at the Royal Park Hotel.

The convicts used a master key to enter the room and stole the money and the items.

Inspector Osei said on detecting the theft after returning from the restaurant, Mr. Maurizio informed the hotel manager who dispatched a search pasty to track down the robbers.

Banda was caught as he bought a ticket to board an Accra bound bus.
