Three jailed for illegally selling building plots

Kumasi, Aug 30, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court has jailed three people, who fraudulently sold building plots to some unsuspecting individuals.

Nana Kwarteng Amaning, the ringleader, would serve a term of 12 months in hard labour, while his two other accomplices, Joseph Osei alias Nana Osei Kwadwo, and Abenaa Jumah go in for six months each.

Mr Justice Eric Baah, a High Court Judge, sitting as additional Circuit Court Judge, also ordered that they refund to two of their victims, Mabel Adusei and Lucy Owusu Ansah, GH¢4,000.00 and GH¢21,000.00, respectively.

This is double, the amount of money the convicts received from the two for plots of land sold to them.

Amaning has been holding himself as Secretary to the 93Adwoa Bona family” at Kwanwoma in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District, with Osei as the Abusuapanin (head of the royal family) and Abenaa, the queen.

They faced charges of fraudulent transactions in land and making a grant of a piece of land to which they have no title and pleaded not guilty.

Their arrest and prosecution followed a joint complaint made to the police by Baffour Agyei-Kesse IV, Adumhene of Kumasi, and Nana Kofi Agyei IV, Odikro of Kwanwoma, that the convicts had prepared forged allocation papers, site plans and were selling land within the Kwanwoma Planning Scheme.

Mr Justice Baah, in his ruling, said he was convinced after critical evaluation of the evidence before the court that the three acted dishonestly and fraudulently.

They well knew that they had no title to the land but for the sake of monetary gain, persisted in selling same to unsuspecting buyers, he added.
