Three in court on drug charges

Three persons were on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri for the supply of dry leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs, use of narcotic drugs and carrying offensive weapons.

The three, Atule Akologo, labourer, Frafra Atongo, unemployed and Yaba Emmanuel, trader, all pleaded not guilty to the charges but were remanded by the court to reappear on October 22.

Atule and Frafra were charged for the supply of narcotic drugs, while Yaba was charged for use of narcotic drugs and carrying offensive weapons.

Police Inspector Acheampong told the court that on October 8, the Kaneshie District Police Command had a tip off that some people were peddling in illicit drugs and smoking Indian hemp at the Dansoman Lorry Station, Kaneshie.

He said in view of that some policemen headed by Chief Inspector Adusei were dispatched to the scene.

He told the court that the police arrested the three accused persons at the scene. Atule and Frafra had in their hands 42 wrappers of dried leaves and another quantity of dried leaves in a brown envelop suspected to be Indian hemp, which they were offering for sale to customers.

The prosecution said Yaba was also arrested whilst smoking a wrap of dried leaves also suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police Inspector Acheampong said during a search on the three persons, a catapult and a knife were retrieved from the pocket of Atule, whiles a pair of scissors and a piece of broken bottle were retrieved from Yaba.
