Adieyie (W/R), Sept. 14, GNA – The Wassa West District Assembly, Ministry of Health and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) are implementing an initiative to reduce mortality rate among pregnant women in the district.
Dr. Teddy Avotri, the District Director of Health Services, announced this at a forum when Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, paid a working visit to Adieyie on Friday as part of the four- day tour of some parts of the district.
He said the programme, known as “Making Pregnancy Safer Initiative (MPSI)” was designed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and is being implemented on pilot basis in the district Dr Avotri said the initiative is primarily targeted at pregnant women in remote areas of the district to forestall complications during pregnancy and delivery.
He said so far about 200 pregnant women have been registered for the initiative, which started in February this year. Dr. Avotri said the registered women are given a card, which entitles them to free medical treatment and transport to health facilities.’
Areas the Regional Minister visited included Anyinasie, Bonsawire-Essikuma, Tarkwa Bremang and Ehyireso. NNNN
