Three foreigners held for attempted drug smuggling

Accra, July 12, GNA – Three young women of foreign nationalities, including two 16-year-old British girls, were on July 2, arrested at the

Kotoka International Airport for attempted smuggling of narcotic drugs. One of the 16-year olds is said to be of Nigeria descent with a British passport, while the other 16-year old is a British citizen. They were about to board a British Airways flight when they were arrested.

The third is Rotariu Florina, a 20-year-old Romanian woman, who was about to board an Alitalia flight.

According to sources at the Narcotic Control Board at the Kotoka International Airport, one of the girls had 3.1 kilogram of the substance while the second had 3.15 kilogram. The drugs were hidden in their hand luggage.

The sources said Florina had six kilogram of substance suspected to be cocaine in her hand luggage.

The first two have been remanded in the Juvenile Unit of the Ghana Police Service while the third is in police custody as investigations continue on the case.
