Three Dormaa citizens honoured with scholarship scheme

Dormaa Traditional Council in Brong Ahafo has launched a scholarship scheme in memory of three industrious citizens of the area.

They include the late Boahen Yeboah-Afari, father of Ms Adwoa Yeboah-Afari, former Editor of Ghanaian Times and former President of Ghana Journalists Association.

The others were late Nana Ansuaa Ababio, former Queen Mother of Dormaa and mother of Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu 11, Dormaahene and the late Emmanuel William Adjei, a business tycoon, whose contributions to the development of the area the Dormaahene has described as phenomenal.

The scholarship scheme, designed to become operational in the 2012/13 academic year, is expected to cover all expenses of the best performing male and female in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the traditional area through to the tertiary level.

Osagyefo Agyeman Badu announced the scheme as part of activities to commemorate Ghana’s 55th Independence Anniversary celebration in Dormaa.

He eulogized the three industrious personalities, saying “even though they have departed into glory, their respective roles have left indelible mark worth emulating by other Dormaa citizens both home and abroad”.

The Dormaahene explained that, the traditional council had chosen to link the memory of the three to education in the municipality so that their level of discipline would spur the current generation on to strive to attain higher academic laurels.

Osagyefo Agyeman Badu commended stakeholders in education in the area, particularly the two District Assemblies, parents and school authorities for making it possible for their basic schools to stand tall among their peers in the 2011/12 BECE.

He urged pupils in basic schools in the area to learn hard in order to merit the scholarship.**
