Three die during heavy downpour in Agona District

Agona Swedru (C/R), June 21, GNA – Three people died and at least 1,000 others rendered homeless following a five-hour heavy downpour in the Agona Swedru Municipality and Agona Nyakrom on Sunday.

The Assemblyman for Agona Nyakrom, Mr Frank Abban, who briefied the Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr David Mensah and the Agona West Municipal chief Executive, Mr Jacob Felix Obeng-Forson, named the deceased as Okori Kofi, Mazu Alhasan, and Cudjoe Aware all from Agona Nyakrom.

He said the rains that started at 1230 hours caused havoc to property and personnel from the Fire Service Station at Agona Swedru who were called to assist rescue people trapped in their homes could do very little The worst affected buildings at Agona were the Agona Municipal JSS and Primary School, Presbyterian Primary and JSS and a portion of the Agona Swedru Sport Stadium. 21 June 10
