Three deputies at Information Ministry ‘needless’ – Baako strikes Akufo-Addo

Seasoned journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has registered his displeasure with the number of ministerial appointments by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, while it is alright for some Ministries to have four appointees due to the quantum of work at the Ministry; it’s, however, unnecessary for others to have such huge numbers.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Baako noted that Ministries like the Finance and Local Government Ministries do not deserve to have three deputy Ministers as appointed by the President.

He supported the President for appointing three deputies to Ministry of Energy because the sector needs more hands to resolve its challenges.

Mr. Baako said on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ that where he’s disappointed is the Ministry of Information.

He stated emphatically that it is completely needless for the Ministry of Information to have three deputies.

“Nobody can convince me that it needs three. That’s my view. I just can’t understand why, in Ministry of Information, we should have three deputies. After all, we have Flagstaff House Communications which is complementary. Of course, that’s from the Presidency but still, it takes a lot of the Presidential things. The Ministry of Information goes beyond the Presidency. We all know that. Government machinery goes beyond the Presidency – the Presidential office – but two would have been sufficient. And that would have also not been unprecedented.”

Meanwhile, the Akufo-Addo administration has recorded the highest number of ministerial appointees in Ghana’s history.

The President has appointed 110 Ministers and deputies to help his government to address the economic challenges.
