Three deprived Atwima schools benefit from solar energy system

Abuakwa (Ash), July.13, GNA – Three deprived Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in the Atwima District have been provided with solar energy systems by the government to assist their pupils make gains from the distance learning programme.

They are Worapong L/A JSS, Boahenkwaa L/A JSS and Akwapim L/A JSS. Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, who made this known said in all 20 such schools in the area had been selected to benefit from the energy system.

He was addressing a joint meeting held with the chiefs and opinion leaders at Abuakwa and Asonomaso to update them on efforts being made to enhance education as well as the overall improvement of the socio-economic lives of the people.

The MP told them that apart from the construction of new classroom blocks at Abuakwa and Akropong, several existing old school structures were being renovated in the constituency.

These include schools at Ahodwo, Besease, Koforidua, Ntabaanu and Ntensere.

Mr Adusei-Sarkodie said teachers’ quarters to provide decent accommodation for those posted to teach at Sewua and Boahenkwaa were also under construction.

Besides, he said he was facilitating negotiations for the release of 600 building plots at Agogo-Nyinesinase on moderate terms to teachers, nurses and doctors to put up their own houses. “We are now at the final stages of formal acquisition of the plots of land,” he said.

The MP also touched on the upgrading of Abuakwa into urban status and said the benefits were going to be tremendous.

Not only would the town have special funds for its development with the network roads running through it but that the general sanitation in the town would see significant progress, he stressed. Mr Adusei-Sarkodie said people in the constituency had every reason to be grateful for the numerous projects including roads, boreholes and electricity supply the government was undertaking to raise their living conditions.
