Three Chinese busted in Denyame-Kumasi

The Central Police Command in the Ashanti region on Friday rounded up some Chinese nationals in Denyame, a suburb of Kumasi for allegedly engaging in illegal mining in the region.

The arrest comes at a time ‘Galamsey’ operation is on the rise occasioning some interventions from the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Minerals Commission.

A taskforce stormed the residence of the Chinese on the top floor of a three-storey building allocated to shops and other business concerns and arrested the suspects.

Two handcuffed males and a female were escorted to a police waiting vehicle and whisked to police station.

According to neighbours, the Chinese nationals have lived there for the past seven months but exactly what they do there is unknown, even though there were rumours they were involved in ‘Galamsey’ and fire arms.

The police were unwilling to disclose information to the media but just said suspect are assisting in investigation.
