Three children perished in Akwatia fire outbreak

Akwatia, May 26, GNA – Three children whose mother locked them up while going out to collect her mobile phone, died in a fire outbreak, which occurred in her absence at Akwatia at the weekend. The children, Maa Abena 8, Kwadwo Adu 5, and Agya Yaw 3, were locked up in their room by their mother Doris Asare, popularly known as Obaa Yaa when she left the house to collect her mobile phone from a repairer.

Since the house was located at an isolated area of Akwatia Kotokoli Zongo and there was no elderly person in the house at the time, and it took neighbours sometime to notice the fire. When they rushed in to save the situation, they found the room locked and had to break the door in a desperate attempt to rescue the children.

Initially, Kwadwo and Agya Yaw were found and rushed to the St Dominic hospital where they died later, but when the fire was put out, the burnt body of Maame Yaa was also found. The fire destroyed every item in the room. The bodies of the children had been deposited at the hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile the mother of the children who is nursing an eight month old baby is helping the police in their investigations.
