Three cable thieves granted bail

Tarkwa (W/R), April 18, GNA- A Tarkwa Circuit Court presided over by Mr. John Ajet Nassam, has granted bail to three suspected cable thieves in the sum of 15 million cedis each with two sureties. They all pleaded not guilty to stealing and were ordered to re-appear on the 23rd of April 2007.

It would be recalled that the three suspects stole cables belonging to Ghana Telecom (GT) last two weeks ago and were arrested. They are Kwame Takyi, alias Bright, a GT sub-contractor, Nana Otoo, a driver with GT and Ebenezer Baidoo, a GT security man. Chief Supt. Daniel Sapart Sampana, Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that, one Peter Ablordey saw the three men loading two heavy fertilizer bags into a GT pick-up with registration number GW 5279 U.

Chief Supt Sampana said Ablordey became suspicious and informed Gold Fields Ghana Limited security personnel led by one Peter Duodoo to arrest the thieves and handed them over to the Police. The cables were peeled, coiled into bundles and stuffed into two fertilizer bags.
