Three before court illegal arms possession

Accra Sept. 14, GNA – Three persons were on Tuesday arraigned at an Accra Circuit Court charged with conspiracy and possessing firearm without lawful authority. They are Iddrisu Bawa alias Alhaji, 50-year-old contractor, Julius Yao Dela, 25 year-old-trader and Theophilous Torgbor a 28-year old footballer. Togbor was additionally charged for possessing fake dollar notes. Their pleas were not taken.

The court, chaired by Mr. Williwise Kyeremeh remanded them in police custody to reappear on September 21. Prosecution said the police received information that some people were dealing in arms and ammunitions with one Alhaji being the leader. The prosecution stated the information received further indicated an informant who had feigned interest to purchase an AK 47 rifle and a G3 rifle at the cost of six million cedis and 6.5 million cedis respectively.

The police said the informant on September 10, this year, arranged with them to receive the weapons. At about 1800 hours on the same day, Bawa, Dela and Torgbor met the informant, presented a polythene bag and told the informant that it contained a G3 rifle. Prosecution said immediately the polythene bag was handed over the informant, the police who had laid ambush, arrested them.
