Three arrested for robbery at Roman Ridge

The Airport Police have arrested three suspects in a foiled robbery incident at Roman Ridge, Accra.

Maxwell Gyimah, 22, ring leader, Divine Aboagye, 18 and Odoi Yemofio, 31, were arrested at about 8: 30 pm on Wednesday in the residence of one of the directors at Parliament House.

A knife and a machete which were retrieved from the scene are being kept as exhibits by the police.

The police had ambushed the suspects following a complaint by the said director on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 that a group of criminals was girding itself to kidnap and subsequently rob his wife, a trader at Makola.

The complainant reported that he had had information that a young man who claimed his wife was indebted to his late father in the sum of GHC40, 000, confided in an informant that the only way to recover the debt was to kidnap his wife so that he could demand the amount as a ransom for her release.

On Wednesday, no sooner had the police laid ambush near the residence of the complainant than the three suspects emerged and broke into the house of the complainant.

While there, the Airport District Police Commander, Supt. Aduhene Banieh said, the police closed in on them and arrested them.

The police retrieved a knife and a machete from the suspects.

The three have since been in the Airport Police cells. The police chief said they would be processed for court as soon as investigations into the matter continued.
