Three arrested for attempting to bribe the police

Kumasi, Dec. 18, GNA – Three people have been placed in police custody, for attempting to bribe the police with an amount of GH¢800. They were arrested by personnel of the Ashanti Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), who were on duty at Kodie on the Kumasi-Offinso road.

The names of the three suspects were not given. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abraham Bansah, the Regional MT= TU Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that at about 1500 hours on Thursday, personnel of the Unit stopped a Nissan Urvan mini-bus with registration number AS 1368 Z.

He said immediately they stopped, the driver and his mate took to their heels, which gave the police some cause to be suspicious. ASP Bansah said when the vehicle was searched ten-and-a-half fertilizer bags containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were found in them. He said moments later the three suspects emerged and attempted to influence the police officers with the money.

The police feigned interest and asked that they three suspects go with them to the Central Police Station to strike a deal with their superiors, which they did. There, they were arrested.
